It's Christmas time at the shop

I am sorry I haven't posted in quite sometime. I just haven't had time. We are almost through the Holiday shopping season. We still have a great selection of gifts for everyone on your list. We even have a few gifts for the guys on your list. We just received our order of brittle bark. It's a very tasty mix of popcorn, chocolate, pretzels and a hint of brittle mark. It' not that stale tasting hard stuff you can get at the big box stores. You can really taste the homemade flavors. We usually have samples out. We also have salsa gift boxes and dip mixes prepackaged for gift giving.

We have lots of secret santa and teachers gifts for every budget. We have some gift bagged items that run from $5.00(3 mini soy candles) to a $20 gift set of a large candle, berry ring and candles pan. They are wrapped in a pretty cello bag.

This year we are gift bagging free again. We have 2 selections of country kraft bags, a burgundy star or a prim feather tree. we still have handmades and with the ice storm today I will be home sewing santa hats and mittens to fill with greens and berries. They will be in the store by the weekend.

We are open everyday until Christmas.

Stop at the shop to see us. 263 Fairview Ave(RT 9) Hudson NY.

For the Prim Girls

Two weeks ago I went to a wholesale show and found some great prims. Little prim bundts wrapped in stained cheesecloth. Some other little prim bundts tea light holders. The same girl that makes these makes great grubby prim can soy candles in a ton of fragrances.

I also have someone who makes great prim dolls. We have a few raggedy ann and andy's, snowmen and santas. Stop in and see them for yourself.

I have all 4 Judy Conlon books for decorating ideas for your country home. She writes a great book filled with so many repurposing ideas. These books make great gift for anyone with a country home.

Fall Clearance

This weekend is our Fall Clearance Sale. Thurs 10-5, Fri 10-5, Sat 10-4, & Sun 10-3. Stop in early for the best choices. I will work each night to try and straighten out the store and will add additional clearance as I find them.

We are putting out some Christmas. Everyday we are putting out new Christmas. We have lots of Blossom bucket, santas and snowman. I just came back this morning from another wholesale show and a trip to the wholesalers.

Yesterday I found exactly what I was looking for, tons of wooden snowmen! I really felt I had a gap in what I wanted for the store for our open house. I now have great wooden snowmen. Some are 3 or 4 feet high. I didn't buy a ton of them since I didn't have my trailer but I will get one more trailer trip in before I have the Christmas Open House. So if I am lucky enough to find them again I will get a few more.

I also found some smaller wooden snowmen which I will put on twig wreaths. Right now I am working on lots of buckets of berries with lights in them and cure little trees in tubs and metal cups with tiny white lights on them. I will have them at the shop and at the Coleman craft show.

I am also working on my gift bags for the open house. I still need a couple of goodies forit.

If you want a sneak peak at Christmas stop in over the next few weeks. But the shop will not be completely Christmas for the Open House on Friday Nov 14, Sat Nov 15, Nov 16.

Stop in at the country shop on Fairview.

Fall is here!

I hope you have some time to get out and enjoy the beautiful fall weather. The shop still has some great Fall decor. We have lots of resin and wood pumpkins. Stop in and take a look. This week I purchased some very pretty bittersweet and twig wreaths that would add a great country look to your home.

I have been busy shopping for new inventory for the store. On Monday and Tuesday I went on a shopping trip and bought lots of wonderful Christmas things. I found some wood candycanes, christmas trees and 2 sizes of cardinals that are mounted on rods to put in the ground or to put in a container with fresh greens to make your entryway look very inviting for the holidays.

We have been pricing boxes of ornaments, santas and snowmen, which make a good gift idea for all the "thank you" gifts we need at holiday time. What about giving the newlyweds in your family, a nice little box of ornaments for their first tree. We also have lots of pretty linens with snowmen, wreaths and crows on them.

Let's see what else did I find, very cute snowmen with a light, oh and very nice gameboards. They are a little smaller than the other ones that I had. They are made by the same person. I also found 2 hand painted mirrors, they are $20.

We have all 4 of the Judy Conlon books. They are filled with incredible ideas for repurposing things you may have around your home already.

2009 Calendars have arrived!

I have also been working on berry wreaths, and baskets. I realized last weekend that the walls were looking a little bare, so on Sat I made up 10 new wreaths. We have a good selection again.

About three weeks ago my DH and I came home with a load of furniture. With the cost of diesel, when we go now, we are sure to bring back a full load. We brought back a burgundy triple and a black triple cabinet, a single black pie safe, 2 2-door black cabinets and several other pieces. We have since sold lots of the new pieces and I have another order placed with the furniture maker and we hope to pick that up in the next couple of weeks. When I stopped by last Mon they showed me a couple of new pieces, a 4 door cabinet, which I ordered in black , and the hutch tops they are now making for the 3 and 4 door cabintes. I ordered one set of the 3 door and the hutch top and a plain 3 door, both in black. The hutch set will be for display and we will be taking orders on that set.

We have lots of plans for the holiday season. We will have gift boxes for Thanksgiving and Christmas. We will have salsas, dip mixes and other gourmet items to choose from. They will make a great hostess gift for your family and friends, so that you can say thanks for inviting us, without breaking your budget.

Our Christmas open house will be November 14th, 15th, & 16th. I will be at the Coleman HS craft show in Kingston on Nov 8th and 9th. I will also have a booth at the Country Folk Art Show in Troy at HVCC on November 21st, 22nd, & 23rd. November will be a crazy month for us at the shop.

I promise to have lots of help this Hiliday Season so you won' t have to wait in line to pay for all your gifts.

Stop by your local farm stand and get some apples and a bake a homemade apple pie!

August plans

Well, I'm back to being open on Sundays from 10-3. I have been working everyday to add to the Fall inventory. I have been putting things aside to bring out for our Fall Open House next Fri, Sat & Sun. The postcards are in the mail and I hope you plan on coming to the shop.

We are putting the finishing touches on our gift bags. I finally got the last order in the mail today and will finish up the bags tomorrow.

I have lots of wooden pumpkins in a variety of sizes. I have made several different wreaths and lots more Fall.

We plan on putting out several samples of our gourmet food items for the open house. This weekend I made up the chocolate mousse, and 2 dips mixes.

I am receiving lots of Christmas orders as well. It's been a little crazy keeping everything organized(or at least making my best effort to be somewhat organized).

We also have lots of new handmades that I picked up on my last wholesale trip last week. Keep checking the blog for a Sept event(our 1st anniversary).

Shopping Trip

I went shopping Monday and Tuesday for the store. I had good luck finding lots of new for the shop. I was able to get new handmades, which I always like to find handmades. I found lots of pumpkins(both fabric and wood), in lots of sizes. I found garden stakes in sheep, pumpkins and bee hives, fabric stars, pears and sheep and I bought some great dried flower twig wreaths. I know, I can make those myself but I am finding I have less and less time as we get closer to the Fall season. I will be working on lots of other wreaths. The trip was busy as usually and I managed to stuff my SUV full again. I hope you will like the new things I just purchased.

The shop was very busy last weekend so I wanted too make sure the shop is worth the trip so I was there until late lastnight pricing as much of the new as I could get done.

We are working on getting everything together for the Fall Open House on Aug 15th, 16th and 17th. This weekend we will be bagging our cinnamon and pumpkin spice putka pods and bagging more of our orange clove potpourri. One other big project we will be working on is getting our gift bags together for the Open House.

Hopefully you will be in the Hudson NY area and have time to stop by the shop at 263 Fairview Ave, our hours for August are F 10-6, S 10-4 and S 10-3.

July at Orange Clove Primitives

July has been a very busy month at Orange Clove Primitives. I have lots of plans all coming together. Our Fall Open House is just around the corner. It will be Aug 15th, 16th, & 17th. We will be giving a gift bag with purchase, while supplies last, we will have at least 100 bags and hope they last through the weekend. I have started adding lots of Fall decor items to our shelves, lots of pumpkins, crows and scarecrows. I will start working on my fall baskets, tins and wreaths this weekend.

On Sept 4th, we will start opening on Thursdays-Sundays. So many of you have asked for more days and with working full-time I just couldn't be there more days. But I have found someone who I have known for years and she will be working on Thurdays for me.

I am also working on our 1st Anniversary weekend on Sept 5th, 6th and 7th. I have lots of things planned and will be mailing a postcard to announce our weekend plans. Please stop by and enjoy lots of samples of salsas, dips and lots more on that weekend.

We had planned on doing the Sept Rhinebeck craft show but it has been cancelled. We will be at Coleman HS craft Show in Kingston in Nov. We will also do the November Hudson Valley CC Folk Art Show.

Then our Christmas Open House will be on Nov 14th, 15th & 16th.

I will also do some sort of coupon for Thanksgiving Fri, Sat & Sun.

So you see, even though we are closed on Sundays for July we have lots of plans for the next fews months. I even went away last weekend fri-sun(thanks to my friends for watching the store). I went to Lake Champlain with my niece and her dog and my husband and our 2 dogs. The weather was perfect Fri & Sat. Great swimming and fishing, we really did have fun.

I'm looking forward to seeing you at the shop this weekend. Orange Clove Primitives 263 Fairview Ave, Hudson NY F 10-6, Sat 10-4 518-828-2028.

We Have Been Open 9 Months

It is hard to believe that Orange Clove Primitives has been open for 9 months. Last year at this time my DH and I still weren't sure if we could get all our approvals(state and town) done before our contract with the seller of our building expired. We received our final approvals the last week in June and Closed in early July. I am putting some plans together for our 1st Anniversay weedend in Sept. I am also working on a Preview to Fall open house(I know, I know, the kids aren't even out of school yet). I am also starting to order some Christmas stock. It is really hard to do when it's 90 degrees out.

I have been so fortunate to meet so many great people through the shop. I have to thank everyone who has stopped at the shop and I hope I can keep coming up with new ideas so you will stop back to see what's new.

Boy what about the heat! It isn't over yet, either.

Today I worked on binding some stars that I rug hooked last year, but I just never finished them. If I don't get the rusty wire hanger on and the black wool backing done one night this week, I will definately finish them next weekend at the shop.

I hope you have a great week and we look forward to seeing you at the shop Fri 10-6, Sat 10-4, Sun 10-3.

We Now Have Greeting Cards

So many customers have asked me to sell greeting cards in the shop. It took me awhile to find a good quality card that was affordable. I think you will be happy with the company we have selected. The cards retail for $1.25. I am looking into a few other card lines as well. Take a look and let me know what you think.

Congrats to Judy, who won our door prize last week. It was a gift basket containing 3 of our new gourmet items; a peach salsa, a grilling sauce and a honey mustard.

Try and stay cool this weekend, it sounds like it will be miserable all weekend. We promise to have the air on in the store.

New Handmades

Sorry it has taken me so long to post here. I have been really busy trying to work in my gardens(they were a real mess, since I opened the shop on Sept 7th, I didn't do my normal fall cleanup work and I paid for it this spring) and getting new things done for the store. I have finally finished a batch of fabric crows. I painted and distressed them and put them on wreaths, lath frames, and in wall baskets. They were really fun but took longer than I thought.

Last weekend was our salsa giveaway with any $20.00 purchase. I brought in a line of salsa(black bean, peach, zesty and mild). I also have added grilling sauces, and some salad dressings. The salsas and grilling sauces would make great Dad's day gifts. We can put them in a plain brown bag and add dark green tissue, so they won't think it is from a country shop.
I also have decoys(cork and wood), they are old and we have a few wood planes.(not airplanes but tools). So even though most of our shop is geared towards the house and gifts for your family and girlfiends, we did think of the dad's out there too.

We did travel shopping for the store on May 18th, 19th and 20th. We picked up an order of furniture, mostly black pine. We currently have both single and double piesafes. We also were able to get a few tip out garbage cabinets, it helps hide an ugly garbage can. I also have several cabinets in a variety of styles. I was also found some great handmades.

We also added a drink mix line. Iced teas, Lemonades and Pina Colda mix and lots more. Last weekend I mixed up a peach iced tea and it was really good. Lots of customers liked it. We will try another this weekend.

I hope if you are in the Columbia County this weekend you will take a few minutes and stop at the shop. We are located at 263 Fairview Ave(Rt 9), just outside the city of Hudson. Our shop is bigger than it looks and we have lots of ideas we are willing to share.

Have a wonderful week.

Working on Wreaths

Finally, this week I had some time to decorate wreaths. The walls were looking a little sparse. I worked a couple nights on berry and twig wreaths. This weekend at the shop I plan on working on filling baskets with berries, decorating small barn stars and more wreaths.

Even though it is supposed to be rainy this weekend, come out to the store and see what we have been working on. Lots of customers have been working on their spring cleaning, and have stopped in to look for a new wreath or table runner to give their homes a little spruce up for spring.

This week, check your mail if you are on the shop's mailing list. We just sent out 275 newletters that will have a $5.00 off coupon for any purchase of $20.00 or more. Coupon must be presented next Fri, Sat & Sun only. If you not on the mailing list, stop into the shop and add your name on. I have decided not to do the Country Folk Art Show in Troy next weekend but I will have a weekend of specials, while supplies last, a doorprize and a few other things going on. Check back on the blog for more details on Sun or Mon.

Have a great weekend.

Lots of new black furniture

My dh and I just got back on Sunday afternoon from 4 days of buying for the store. We hit a few of our favorite furniture wholesalers first. I was able to pick up several pieces of black distressed pine furniture. It is amazing to me how popular black has become in country decor. It was always huge in modern decor. Now that it is distressed or antiqued it really looks great in every home. I was able to get 2 tall pie safes, and several small black cabinets in various styles. I also picked up cabinets with a tip out garbage can and drawer in 2 colors. I bought one of these for the store so I can take orders, as the last time I brought them in they were gone the 1st weekend.

I was busy last night putting new things out and making several new things, especially for the walls. When I came home Sunday and went to the store, I noticed how many wreaths were gone off the walls from the weekend. I promise by Fri at 10:00 the shop will be full again. Many thanks to my friend who watched the store for me Fri and Sat(Sunday we were closed for Easter).

I found some great twig wreaths. Some are quite large and would look great over a fireplace or outside on a barn or front porch. I manged to find lots of new and stocked up on some things that had sold out. All in all it was a fun trip and we also had a little time to relax.

Now it's back to work and we look forward to seeing you in the shop this weekend.

This weekend we are selling all remaining Easter at 50% off(I don't have a lot but enough to make it worth the trip to look it over and pick up a bargain). All of our remaining oak furniture is 30% off. I really need the room for the pine distressed pieces.

Our hours on Fri are 10-6 Sat 10-4 & Sun 10-3.

What's new?

Thank you to everyone that attended our Spring Open House. I hope you enjoyed your gift bags. A few customers have already been back to use their $5.00 off coupon. This week I was lucky enough to get to one of my wholesalers to pickup some new things. I have also received an order that I had placed more than a month ago. I was able to get some of that out for this weekend. I am working on some new handmade crows.

We also have a new selection of earrings in spring colors, lots of pretty crystals and gems.

This weekend we are having 20% off all bunnies. I also bought a group of large twig stars which we will be selling for $10.00 each. They are great for both inside and out. Please stop by our shop at 263 Fairview Ave in Hudson NY. We are open Fri, Sat & Sun.

Lots of New arriving daily

Our spring open house is this weekend. If you live near the shop you could use a little spring. Our weather has been terrible. Snow again yesterday and a small storm heading in this friday. Our shop will be open and we promise you a little look of spring. We have spring florals and lots of bunnies, Easter eggs, spring sayings in resin and spring wreaths.

If you are in the area please stop in to the shop Fri 10-6, Sat 10-4, or Sun 10-3.

I have spent several snowy days in the last couple of weeks ordering catalogs and placing orders. I received 10 boxes today and am working really hard to get things priced for this weekend. I ordered lots of home decor. Lots of black and burgundy stars in napkin rings, hooks, and key holders. I received new buckets and baskets.

I also ordered from a new candle company. They are a little different from what I normally ordered but the fragrance is very strong and very pretty colors.

I finally received my refresher oils order. The order included orange cinnamon, cinnamon, and many other fragrances.

I am making some cute berry garland sways with a rusty star and a wired gingham bow. They are about 30 inches long and will look great in any home. I have been busy filling rusty buckets and baskets with both spring florals and berries. The berries are both the popular burgundy and spring colors.(Blues, pinks etc).

Right now the store is a mess but I promise I will have tings cleaned up by Friday at 10 AM.

New Candle Trays and other items

Today I went shopping for the store. I was very happy to find some great wooden candles trays and large wooden bowls. I found a few smaller black candle trays. as well.

I also was looking for some black linens and was able to find some placemats and table runners to match. Yeah!

I stopped at the store on my way home and priced everything. The displays are looking full again after the holiday rush. Since the first of the year I have added several new cabinets and today I managed to finished filling them.

There were several wire baskets which I had been looking to restock since Sept. Today finally success, I found them in 2 colors. Spring continues to arrive.

If you are near the shop please stop in this weekend.

Shop Opening

On Sept 7th 2007, Orange Clove Primitives was opened. My shop is a small country store located in Hudson NY. I sell a mixture of country home decor and primitive home items. I have an ever changing inventory. Currently the shop has lots of spring color. There are florals displayed in rusty buckets. I have made many spring wreaths and rusty flower pots filled with shades pinks, peaches, yellows and blues.

On a recent shopping trip for the store I found lots of new painted pine furniture and mirrors.

We have braided table runners, place mats, coasters, hot pads and rugs. When you enter the shop you will definitely see a variety of country decor.

I am so lucky to have a talented family member making a selection of sterling jewelry. She makes earrings and bracelets using both stones and crystals.

This weekend I' working on making bundles of florals wrapped in brown kraft paper and tied with linen string. Tomorrow I also plan on making another tub of orange clove potpourri.
